Natural Methods to Treat Itchy Rashes

Itchy rashes are uncomfortable and unsightly. You can get them for a wide variety of reasons. Allergies, irritations, viruses, bacterial infection, fungus and more can all cause these red, bumpy, splotchy menaces to form on your skin. You can take steroids and calamine lotion to help heal them and relieve the discomfort, but these products have chemicals and people are trying to learn more about other remedies. Fortunately, there are natural means to try as well that have been used through the ages . Here are some of the top natural treatments for a rash.

First, remember that herbs are your friend. The internal or external use of certain herbs can provide blessed relief from the discomfort of a rash. You can take herbal capsules, eat the herb raw, or take it as a tincture or a tea. Herbs work for different situations. Stinging nettles are good for rashes caused by allergies, for example. Lemon balm, lavender, mullein, and licorice root are all good for helping with the discomfort, as well. You can also use soothing creams that have these herbs as main ingredients for quick relief.

You can use herbs in the form of poultices, as well. Fresh or dried herbs are appropriate for this method. Basically, you chop up a cup or so of the herb you think is best for your condition, then wet the mound with hot water. Spread the wet herb mash on a piece of clean cotton cloth and apply to the rash, herb side down. This can bring relief within a short amount of time. Lavender is a very good herb for a poultice, as is mullein. Leave the poultice on until you start to feel relief.

A compress also works well for itchy rashes. It’s similar to a poultice, except you soak a cloth in water that has been infused with a tincture or tea made from the herb of your choice. Then, wring out the cloth and apply it to your rash. Make sure the water you use is warm for best results. If you have any questions about other good herbs for your rash, you can find that information online or in herb books. There are literally dozens of herbs that can help you. Other natural remedies include vitamins, dietary changes and the use of oils externally and internally. Flax seed oil is reported by many to help various rashes that itch and I found this oil helpful in my own situation. The itching would subside when I took it regularly and it enabled me to fall back to sleep in the middle of the night.

  1. I found borage oil and flax seed good for helping my eczema. Do not use calamine lotion for this. That is better for different types of rashes. They are each different and have their own remedy but I’d say taking a good multi vitamin and getting the right oils internally plus anti-inflammatory supplements will help a lot.
