The nickel on cell phone surfaces, ear attachments and other components can give you cell phone dermatitis. If you see a red rash near the ear, mouth area or even your fingers from texting, you may be having an allergic reaction to the nickel in the materials.

By the way, they say women have more of a propensity to develop a mobile phone rash due to wearing jewelry so this creates a skin sensitivity. Check out the areas such as your cheek, inner ear, outer ear as well as near the mouth.

According to Dr. Bercovitch from Brown University, close to half of the cell phones have free nickel. There are places such as the frames, buttons and designer little logos that can create issues. Headsets are good but you also want to see if these are plastic or metal pieces. If metal, is it free nickel?

Allergic contact dermatitis is also a problem for people with nickel buttons on pants, belt buckles and certain jewelry items. It depends on the metal alloy and combinations. Of course there are other controversial questions such as radiation with mobile devices as well. Also be careful about clipping your phone directly on a shirt that can contact your skin.
