I personally have impetigo right now and i'm 23. I did not have an open sore at all when i got it but i just got over the flu and my doctor said it sometimes can be a secondary infection when your already sick with something....It itches like crazy I can barely keep my hands off so asking a child to do it is insane!

My son picked at a sore or insect bite and that was the cause of his impetigo rash. It was little staph blisters that had fluid. We were afraid it would scar, but it didn't.

I know they say that impetigo skin problems effect young kids but my sister had it in her 20s. I think hers was staph infection impetigo and not strep bacteria. She has open skin from falling on her knee a few days earlier. It did get some yellow crusting and took a while to finally close up.

My brother had nasal impetigo and it was really gross. If you ever checked out impetigo images you see they can be pretty scary. He got it at camp, but I guess it's better than catching scabies at camp which I know is really hard to get rid of.
