Eczema Diagnosis - Getting A Second Opinion
Though I was diagnosed with nummular eczema, I saw another dermatologist today for another point of view. Well, he said it could be nummular eczema OR it could be a fungus or yeast rash. One thing he did tell me was to not look at pictures on the internet anymore using google images!
Identifying a rash is obviously difficult due to fact that hives, eczema, heat rash etc etc can look like each other in certain types of papules and forms.
Is getting a second opinion a good idea? Well, today on Oprah, there was a woman who had a 140 lb tumor and Dr. Oz was talking about how important it is to get other opinions medically. Additional opinions can create ambiguity but they also may give us clarity finally. The discussion encompassed whether we are afraid to show the doctor we want another opinion. Will your doctor have trouble with this? Dr. Oz said we shouldn’t see a doctor who prohibits this.
The dermatologist I saw today gave me a cream to use based on the fact that my rash may be a fungus rather than eczema. Before the other dermatologist told me it was nummular eczema, a different derm told me it was erythema multiforme minor. The funny thing is that I had two biopsies too so they are basing their analysis on these too.
Do we want the simplicity of one opinion? Why are certain medical conditions less prone to multiple diagnoses? How do you act when given different instructions and medications by two physicians? Remember, it is your skin, you are suffering from the itchy rash (or other medical condition) and you want to get answers and improve your situation.
I haven’t tried this , but a patient of mine mentioned this helped her for yeast issues. She had vaginal yeast that became a problem all through her system.
