Deodorant Armpit Rash: Do You Know Why It Occurs

deodorant armpit rash Deodorant armpit rash can occur for many reasons. Some people are allergic to deodorants, particularly the aluminum that can be in deodorants. If a person is allergic to anything, they must stop using whatever they’re allergic to. Just treating the rash with such creams as corticosteroids might relieve the itch and reduce the redness for awhile, but if you are having an allergic reaction it will re-emerge when you stop the cortisone cream or oral steroids.

To get rid of armpit rash, first one must determine whether it is the deodorant that is causing the rash or something else. First of all, change your deodorant. Make sure that you use a deodorant that doesn’t contain the same ingredients that the one that caused you problems had. Did the rash suddenly appear, particularly when you just changed your deodorant? If so, that is an important answer and you are better off using your former deodorant. Can it be a itchy skin rash due to shaving under your arms? An uncomfortable razor burn rash can occur there especially if you shave against the growth of the hair or don’t lubricate the area properly. Learning how to stop shaving bumps will help it subside.

If you’ve been using the same deodorant for years, this can also be the issue. Your body doesn’t like being exposed to exactly the same thing day-in-day-out for years on end. It may tend to reject things. One trick is, try using a deodorant that says it’s for women. They oftentimes will make sure that deodorants for women are gentler. Men just don’t want to complain if they get a rash. It may be too embarrassing to talk about. However, women are more outspoken about these matters.

Don’t rule out that the deodrant is not the cause of your rash. If you don’t dry under your armpits very well, you can get fungus infections under your armpits just as you would on your feet or crotch area. The kind of fungus which attacks is generally a strain called Tinea; so particularly if the rash is associated with itching, you might try an over-the-counter cream such as Tinactin, Lotramin, Chlortrimazole, or one of the other creams that’s designed to get rid of either Jock Itch or Athlete’s feet. Just because it’s your armpits doesn’t mean that they can’t be attacked by the same things that attack your feet or crotch. If you sweat a lot, then the rash might be due to one of those fungi. In terms of natural products, grapefruit seed extract is good to take internally and fight off fungal rashes. Tea tree oil is an oil you can use externally that is anti-fungal.

Another possibliity is that it’s a yeast infection. Strangely enough, but yeast can grow in any area which is moist all the time and warm. It should also be treated with antifungal creams, so the same ones I mentioned that work with fungi, also work with yeast. You may also want to take probiotics like acidopholous and add active culture yogurts into your diet. Don’t forget that some people will
get yeast due to carbohydrates , sugar, dairy products and other offenders.

Getting to the bottom of the problem takes careful observation and effort, but is well worth it. It can also be a heat rash or contact dermatitis from one’s soap or laundry detergent so think of everything your underarm contacts to be able to draw the right conclusion.

  1. My girlfriend got a rash under her armpit when she was using one of those strong deodorants that claimed no odor would occur (forgot what they are called). On her leg sometimes when she shaves at thigh area she gets like razor burn or shaving rash pimples so I guess for some people it can be from shaving but for other people it’s from using a deodorant that doesn’t agree with them.I definitely wouldn’t shave on an area with a rash at all but give it time to get better.

  2. I used to put a little perfume under my armpit before dating and that actually caused me to get an armpit rash. I thought it was my deodorant but it was the perfume. It is a sensitive area there. My friend gets a rash there from shaving too much she said.

Yeah I also got a rash using one of those very strong deodorants. It felt like it really plugged the sweat duct glands up and that worried me like my skin couldn’t breathe and eliminate toxins.

  4. I used to get a terrible, painful, itchy armpit rash in the summertime. Figured out that it might be a yeast infection. I was using a natural deoderant and I switched to a natural deoderant that has tea tree and lavender in it. It cleared up nicely and I haven’t had problems since.
