Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of psoriasis, making up approximately 90% of all cases of the skin condition. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system is tricked into believing that the skin itself is a threat, so in response the immune system gets into gear and tries to quickly grow new and healthy skin cells.

Plaque psoriasis symptoms do not just affect the outer skin but also the scalp and nails. Some tend to confuse psoriasis with seborrhea dermatitis (which also has symptoms of red, scaly skin that itches) but the difference is that the latter gives the scalp a greasy feeling.
