Baby Diaper Rash-Effective Treatment Tips

Diaper rash is common, but it doesn’t make it easy to see your child with a rash. It can be due to the wetness , the urine or stool , food allergy or fungus/yeast . Air dry before changing the diaper.

Consciouly try to keep the area dry and hygenic. Avoiding rubbing but instead pat the area. Rubbing a rash is counterproductive.
Zinc, Vitamin A and D Cream or petroleum jelly work well. Also don’t put the diaper on too tightly. Try to avoid cleaning your baby with items that have strong fragrances, perfumes etc as there may be an allergic reaction involved.

The causes of a diaper rash can vary but wetness, reactions to stool/urine, food allergies, rubbing too hard or fungus/yeast seem to be the most common reasons. Also sometimes parents can be too zealous in cleaning up the baby and this may result in redness from chafing.

When babies eat solid foods they may keep stool in the diapers overnight and this can create diaper rash. Also if the stools are loose this can irritate the skin. If you are using disposale diapers you may want to try either a natural disposable type or look into using cloth to test if there is a difference. Were antibiotics used recently? If so, it could be a thrush/yeast infection and acidopholous or probiotics are useful.

Normally the diaper rash lasts a few days and won’t have blisters or pus. If you see this, see your physician. There are some rashes that are bacterial infections that would be treated differently. Remember that it is a common situation so don’t stress out but analyze the situation , breathe and then take action.
